Lamberhurst Vineyard
LAMBERHURST VINEYARDS VISITOR CENTRE, KENT The proposal is for a change of use of a former barn and bonded warehouse from their current use to a mixture of tourism and business use. This will involve part demolition of the building and recent extensions, the removal and replacement of the existing wall and roof cladding of both buildings to comply with modern standards and a new internal refit throughout. The replacement cladding will be in natural timber boarding with painted or stained timber windows and external doors. The roof will be clad in profiled metal sheet with metal-framed roof lights to provide natural light to the interior of this deep plan building. A covered terrace will be formed at the north end of the larger structure and an open terrace created along its flank wall on what is now an open concrete storage area immediately to the east of the structure. Nearby ancillary offices and sheds will be removed and the area immediately around the refurbished buildings will be landscaped. A new parking layout will be created on the site of the existing parking, hard standings and building footprint to address the new main entrance of the converted bonded warehouse building. The intention of the client is that these works will transform the appearance of both the bonded warehouse and visitor centre in such a way that they will make a positive contribution to the visual amenity of the site and its rural setting. In particular the use of traditional materials for the cladding and thoughtful placement of windows and other openings will result in an attractive range of buildings more in harmony with the location than in its present state. The reconfigured buildings in the vineyard setting will serve to attract greater numbers of visitors to this site.
